IT Support – Room and Board and $750 a month for initially up to a Four-Month position at the Mount Madonna Retreat Center and Children's School located about one hour from San Jose on Mount Madonna, near Santa Cruz California.

Position summary
The position is to work as part of the Network Administration/IT Support team who are responsible for the maintenance and development of the information systems at Mount Madonna Center, an internationally known retreat and seminar facility, and Mount Madonna School.
Mount Madonna Center is a non-profit enterprise dedicated to spiritual growth and self-development. The Center sits on 355 acres of redwood forest and open hill-top meadows overlooking the Pajaro Valley and Monterey Bay. This job is ideal for someone with technical skills who wants to take a break from the hectic business world and experience life in a well-organized community that is dedicated to serving the larger community with a variety of educational offerings.
In addition to meaningful work, the community offers its staff and residents regular yoga classes, meditation classes, guest lectures, hiking trails, hot tub and athletic facilities. This is an opportunity to experience life in a spiritually oriented community and use your talents to support and develop the IT system that connects this unique community with itself and the world it serves. The community food service is vegetarian and we ask everyone to abide by the vegetarian guidelines while on the property. No drugs or alcohol are allowed.

Compensation
Housing and food is provided as part of residence. This is equivalent to approximately $1400/month or $5200 for the four month period. The stipend for this position is $3000 for the first 4 months.

Our IT System
Our system currently consists of approximately 120 Windows XP PCs, six Windows 2003 servers, 25 Mac OS X machines, and a variety of Cisco switches and network equipment. The entire campus is linked by a 50 micron fiber optic cable and hosts several wireless networks. Currently we are reconfiguring our system at its next level of scale so it is an interesting time to be part of the IT group.

Job Description:
Windows Desktop Support to:
assist users with day-to-day hardware and software problems;
Support Microsoft desktop applications
Install and manage Windows XP based computers
Manage various user accounts in Active Directory
Work with vendor to maintain Toshiba Strata Telephone system
Assist in maintaining Windows 2003 Servers
Maintain up-to-date documentation of IT processes
Support users by phone, e-mail, and in-person
Provide short seminars to staff on how to use applications

This is a technical hands-on leadership position focused on managing advanced planning and integration of recurring production jobs for all of IT with focus in the following areas: ### Technical configuration and change management coordination for impacted functions ### Processes for restarting jobs and backing out flawed changes ### Design, development, and deployment of enterprise scheduling technology ### Performance optimization of ETL nightly batches and diverse workloads ### Technology integration enabling automation of manual tasks ### Regulatory compliance of scheduled jobs, scripts, and data handling

    Responsibilities:
    Contributes to the overall success of the IT Global Operations organization by providing oversight and leadership around enterprise job scheduling and batch processing.
    Interfaces daily with other IT technical staff & coordinates cross functional dependencies
    Partners closely with the IT NOC to empower the NOC with tools and processes which minimize the administrative burden on other IT staff.
    Provides 24x7 coverage and response to system outages during "on-call" periods.
    Strives for continuous improvement
    Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
    Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
    Participate in technology evaluations, related projects, and make recommendations Help resolve complex IT issues
    Maintains systems patch levels proactively
    Evaluates SQL efficiency and makes recommendations for improvements to optimize system performance and produce output expediently
    Develops scripts, ETL code, and integration software to optimize batch performance
    Demonstrates performance objectively using metrics
    Configures systems and tools to automate manual tasks
    Makes use of command scripting and scheduling to reduce errors
    Ensures enterprise changes are tracked and controlled
    Documents standards, best practices and job scheduling architecture
    Fields escalated job scheduling support requests from other groups
    Leads the technical analysis of production change requests to ensure dependencies are understood and coordinated.


    Required Skills/Experience:
    This position requires someone who is smart, organized, learns quickly, hardworking and thrives in a fast paced team environment. Requires a Bachelors degree plus 5 years of related experience or Masters plus 1 year of related experience. Must have effective communications skills and the ability to work successfully with others. Requires strong analytical/problem solving skills, an ability to provide alternatives, root cause analysis, testing ability and the ability to make thoughtful proposals. Must have substantial experience designing, implementing and maintaining production scripts, cron jobs, batch/ETL infrastructure, PL/SQL, UNIX, and Oracle. Hands-on experience with database administration and performance tuning. Hands on experience configuring and using an enterprise cross platform scheduling system like Maestro, AppWorx or other similar technology.


    Desired Skills:
    Experience with large (5K+ users) enterprises and 200+ systems in a global organization. Hands on experience with Cast Iron appliances developing/supporting orchestrations. Experience with Salesforce.com administration, data modeling, Oracle 10G, grid computing, diverse workload management, Web 2.0 technologies, business intelligence, and Java software development. One or more industry certifications.

    The minimum qualifications needed to effectively fulfill the functions of the position include:

    • Experience in Saleforce.com, PeopleSoft Student Records and Student Administration is strongly desired.
    • Demonstrated ability to gather and document business process workflow.
    • Demonstrated analytical skills, with an interest in and understanding of information systems and technologies – ERP Knowledge a plus.
    • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute complex business analyses.
    • Exceptional analytic and computer modeling skills.
    • Ability to understand and manipulate raw data and data modeling – knowledge in SQL is a plus
    • Ability to apply critical thinking in the solution of highly complex business and organizational problems.
    • Exceptional communication skills necessary to articulate policies and communicate issues, conclusions and recommendations clearly and persuasively in written and oral form.
    • Capacity to handle multiple assignments with minimal supervision under critical deadlines.
    • Strong interpersonal skills, intellectual curiosity, flexibility, and initiative required to work in a continually changing environment.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with wide variety of professionals and academics.
